Established in 2006, Maier Pfeffer Kim Geary & Cohen LLP (“MPKGC”) is a full service law firm with offices located in Oakland, California and Santa Rosa, California. The five named partners include the former Executive Director of California Indian Legal Services and Senior Attorneys who collectively have over 125 years of combined experience in the practice of federal Indian and tribal law, representing Indian tribes and tribal organizations. All of our attorneys are experienced general counsel, advising tribal leaders of tribal governments and governmental entities in California and across the nation on a wide range of tribal governance, employment, administrative, and legislative concerns — as well as, when needed, litigation in both state and federal courts.
Our expertise and practical experience give us a unique perspective that allows for innovative, efficient, and ultimately successful work in California’s Indian Country. Through the years, we have also represented the interests of tribes and tribal entities nationwide, including Louisiana and Washington State. Our attorneys are admitted to practice in California, New York, and numerous federal courts including the United States Supreme Court.
We pride ourselves on maintaining strong, long-term relationships with our tribal clients by providing counsel and advocacy that is tailored to exceed each individual client’s needs and expectations. As a result, many of our clients have chosen to retain us for decades.
